Description
Layered caramel apple cinnamon roll lasagna delights dessert enthusiasts with its rich, indulgent flavors. Sweet apple filling and cinnamon roll pastry create a comforting Southern-style treat perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cans cinnamon rolls (with icing)
- 4 large apples (Granny Smith or Golden Delicious), peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) caramel sauce (salted caramel optional)
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and thoroughly coat an 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish with non-stick spray.
- Create the apple mixture by combining diced apples, sugar, corn starch, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a mixing bowl. Ensure the apples are evenly coated with the seasoning.
- Remove cinnamon rolls from their packaging and slice into ¼-inch thick rounds. Carefully roll out each slice on a flour-dusted surface, using additional flour on hands and rolling pin to prevent sticking.
- Line the bottom and sides of the prepared dish with the first layer of flattened cinnamon roll slices, slightly overlapping each piece to create a complete base.
- Distribute half of the apple filling across the cinnamon roll base, then generously drizzle 2-3 tablespoons of caramel sauce over the apple layer.
- Add a second layer of flattened cinnamon rolls, followed by the remaining apple filling. Repeat the caramel sauce drizzle, then top with a final layer of flattened cinnamon rolls.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes until the top turns golden brown.
- Allow the lasagna to cool for 30 minutes after removing from the oven. Finish by drizzling the provided icing over the top and cut into serving portions.
Notes
- Ensure apples are freshly diced and not too watery to prevent soggy layers, patting them dry with paper towels helps maintain the perfect texture.
- For gluten-free adaptation, use certified gluten-free cinnamon rolls and replace corn starch with arrowroot powder or potato starch.
- Enhance flavor complexity by adding a pinch of cardamom or a splash of vanilla extract to the apple filling for deeper aromatic notes.
- Prevent excessive browning by tenting with foil if the top layer becomes golden too quickly during the final baking stage.
